60Getting More Backlinks
When it comes to SEO (search engine optimization) and SEM (search engine marketing) the most important thing you can and should do is to get more backlinks. For some it may not be an easy task and for others it may be a walk in the park, however it is extremely important to have a good collection of backlinks if you wish to rank higher in the search engines. Getting more backlinks to your site will also increase your PR(page rank), which is Google's method for measuring just how important and authoritative your site actually is. Another good reason to try to get more backlinks is because the backlinks themselves can actually send you some direct referal traffic on top of the authority it is giving your site.
There is one important thing to keep in mind while trying to get more backlinks and that is you want backlinks from other authoritative sites that are related to your site, not just measly little links from off topic non important sites. The more authoritative the site is that you are getting the backlink from the more impact it will have on the quality of your backlink. Also try to look for sites related to your niche or topic, this is important because Google does not like sites that are linking to each other that are totally unrelated. For example, you have a site selling fishing equipment and you have a backlink from a site that is selling gardening kits. It would be better to get links from other fishing sites or possible even some sport sites since fishing is a sport, but do not get links from sites that are totally unrelated, this can actually hurt your PR.
Why Pay Per Click Advertising
Every Internet marketer wants to achieve a high search engine position for a chosen keyword. The purpose of this is to try and capture the eyes of perspective customers as they type in the key phrases that are being targeted into the search engines. If you can get your website listed on the first page of results, you are in Gravy!
But of course, if it was that easy to get on the first page of the search engines results, selling SEO ebooks would not be a million dollar industry!
The answer, of course, is that it is not a simple matter to get listed on the first page of any (large) search engine's results. At least not for phrases that anyone is targeting. There is just too much competition. The search engines have very complex rules governing who or what appears at the top of their results for any given search phrase.
One of the most common (and universally recognised) rules that play a substantial role in deciding who appears where in the search engines, is linking. By this I mean a site placing a link to one site on their site. This is considered a 'vote' for the site receiving the link. It is actually a bit more complicated then that, but that is the gyst.
Not only is it time consuming, but it can take many months to see the fruits of your labour. Getting links back to your site is still something that you continue to try and do of course, it is just that it is a medium to long term strategy. So, if you need to see results more quickly, then you need to consider other options. Pay per click advertising is one of those options.
There are some advantages that pay per click advertising has over more conventional (real world) forms of advertising. Webmasters have control over their web sites, so that they can be very targeted. Equally, the big search engines have got the art of delivering targeted ads to specific web pages down to a fine art. When you deliver flyers (for example), you cannot achieve the same level of targeting. When you create your pay per click advertising campaign, it is possible to fine tune the ads you write to be very specific indeed, irrespective of how small the ad you are writing is allowed to be.
Pay per click advertising is far less invasive than other forms of advertising. In some cases it is quite subtle. Some advertising people swear by in your face advertising, but that doesn't always work on the Internet. The ads themselves form part of the search results, or are located on websites as Adsense ads, which can be quite discreet (at the discretion of the Webmasters).
Pay per click advertising can be a very cost effective advertising strategy. If you test your result properly, you can fine tune your ads to the nth degree. Many people fail at pay per click advertising simply through inexperience. Their bids are often too high and their adverts not optimised enough for the keyword phrases being bid on. Without due care and attention, you can lose a lot of money doing pay per click advertising, but it shouldn't happen if you pay attention to what you are doing.
As I mentioned earlier, pay per click advertising does have the benefit of giving almost instant gratification. You can set up a campaign and begin to see some data fed through in a matter of hours. And because of the sheer size of the market that you are playing with, you have the potential for huge profits.
Pay per click advertising is not for everyone of course. You can do very well from organic searches simply by themeing your web pages and building links to your site from respected sources. Another way of collecting backlinks is simply to pay attention to what is going on in the SEO world. There is often new techniques developed that help you to create huge numbers of quality backlinks in very short periods of time. If you can latch onto one of these, you stand to do very well with your web site.
Tips To Getting Guaranteed Website Traffic
If you are willing to pay for it, almost anything is guaranteed. This applies to website traffic as it does to anything else. There is another saying too, you get what you pay for. That too applies to guaranteed website traffic. And another one, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. I think that you get the picture. The top of the range guaranteed website traffic models come from Google, in the form of their Adwords program, and from MSN and Yahoo, who have their own equivalents. The principal is that you bid to get your ad placed on someone else's website. When a visitor clicks on your add, you have to pay for the click. This is called, pay per click (ppc).
This method of guaranteed traffic generation can work a treat, if you know what you doing. If you don't know what you are doing, then it could cost you your shirt.
Sadly, there are many of us out there that have neither the experience or the cash to run successful Adwords campaigns. So what do we do for our guaranteed website traffic? There are a myriad of sites out there that offer 'guaranteed hits' to your site. This is nothing to do with ppc. My experience of these reminds me of yet another saying; something to do with ten foot poles.
The Internet is a great place to search for information isn't it? Doesn't that give you some ideas? People want information, and will flock to sites that have good quality information on it. Isn't that good traffic? What's more, it is better than just 'traffic' it is what is known as 'laser targeted traffic', if you believe the hype you read. In this case, it is true. You have a site about plums, then the people who visit your site about plums, will be interested in plums. Logical? So, if you have an ad about plums on that site, you should get some visitors. Quite right. So how do you get the search engines to notice your plum site?
The search engines (by and large) use a 'voting' system to decide which sites get place to the top of their search results pages (SERPS). The more other sites that you have voting for you, the higher you will be. It does get more complicated than that though (as you would expect). The search engines have all manner of complex algorithms working away to add more weight to certain votes over others. If for example the voting site is already well respected, a vote from them will carry a lot of weight. If the site voting for you is also about plums, then that will carry weight. If you get a vote from a well respected site which is about plums, then you have struck gold!
These 'votes' are called 'backlinks', or links to your site from another, and they are the holy grail of search engine optimisation (SEO). Link building is a slow and arduous task. The fact that it can take a lot of your valuable time means that it is also expensive. This is where some of the cleverer people involved in SEO start to show their merit. They come up with ways of generating backlinks far more easily. For example, find blogs that have a similar theme to that of your site, and leave a (relevant) comment on it, with a link back to your site. Great! A link back AND the chance of getting some traffic directly from the link (if your comment is good).
But even this is time consuming, surely there must be a better way?
Well, there is! Find out for yourself at Build Backlinks.

Gathering links is the key to a successful web site. Once upon a time you could gather links from everywhere, and they all made a difference. These days, things have changes, and not all links are created equal. You can either spend a lot of money in creating links, usually paying a third party to do it for you. Or you can look for innovative ways to build your links. That's really what this lens is all about. Get Backlinks - 2 years ago

Great page on one of the most important topics to web masters today. A site lives and breathes by the traffic it receives. This article is a great start to helping people increase that traffic.
This a great hub with lots of information on what to do to get more web traffic
Great information but I have to disagree regarding getting backlinks from related sites. Jonathan Ledger have proved that this is not necessary.
PPC can be a great way to "turn on the tap" of instant website traffic, just need to be sure you know what you are doing and don't exceed your budget, and make sure via testing and analytics that the traffic you are paying for is profitable. I still prefer old fashioned seo, but PPC can, as you say, be a worthwhile short to medium term strategy while your seo is getting going.
I would say that it's more important to get links from related pages rather than related sites. This is why relevant articles on unrelated sites will still do well.
